I saw the first cardinals I have seen yet this year yesterday morning. They were chasing each other through the air above my garden and perching in the trees, singing their lungs out.
I never heard cardinals before I moved to Texas, and I think their song is among my favorites now.
I am also seeing what looks like woodpeckers.
Spring must be coming!

How lovely to have the cardinals return to your garden. They are year round visitors in my garden and they are my most favourite bird to watch.
It's our State bird here in NC. They never leave us. I have noticed more this year than usual. March came in like a lamb today with lots of animal acitvity--will it be a year for an early spring without the cold of early April? I am so dissapointed when a frost arrives and ruins all the buds.
Of all the birds except Blue Birds my favorite must be the cardinal I love the way the male struts around with his crest looking for all the world like king of all he surveys , I am lucky and have a pair come to grace our garden and my name for them is Mr and Mrs Special
