I hate to be discouraging, but I just lost mine to the cold weather we had this winter. The trees were about four years old. If you plant them, make sure they are in a protected area as they are really tropical.
That's very interesting, Jan. How cold did it get over there? I have read that these can tolerate brief freezes, even down to 22 degrees F.
We didn't even get very far into the 20's this year. Last year was noticeably cooler.
These trees pictured in this post are still growing. I pass them regularly on walks, and have recently noticed a fresh crop of flowers. One tree is on the south side (I think) of a fence, but the other is quite out in the open. Both appear to be doing very well.

I saw one at Enchanted Forest a month or two ago, but wasn't ready for it.
By the next time I went, someone else had already grabbed it. :(
